چکیده

Background 31P MRS is an important tool for the measurement of in vivo energetics via the ratio PCr/ATP. Low signal-to-noise (31P molar receptivity is 1/14 that of 1H) coupled with low concentration of high-energy phosphates can result in high measurement variability. 31P MRS of human heart often contains signals originating from blood i.e. 2,3DPG and ATP. Measurement of myocardial PCr/ATP thus requires subtraction of blood derived ATP signal. The aim of this work was to improve blood correction by applying prior knowledge (PK) of molecular spectral parameters to the 2,3DPG signal. We demonstrate that accurate spectral fitting of 2,3DPG prevents proliferation of fitting errors through blood correction, resulting in improved accuracy of PCr/ATP measurement.

Human cardiac 31P magnetic resonance spectroscopy at 7 tesla

PURPOSE Phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((31)P-MRS) affords unique insight into cardiac energetics but has a low intrinsic signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in humans. Theory predicts an increased (31)P-MRS SNR at 7T, offering exciting possibilities to better investigate cardiac metabolism. We therefore compare the performance of human cardiac (31)P-MRS at 7T to 3T, and measure T1s for (31...

Adiabatic excitation for 31P MR spectroscopy in the human heart at 7 T: A feasibility study

PURPOSE Phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy (31 P-MRS) provides a unique tool for assessing cardiac energy metabolism, often quantified using the phosphocreatine (PCr)/adenosine triphosphate (ATP) ratio. Surface coils are typically used for excitation for 31 P-MRS, but they create an inhomogeneous excitation field across the myocardium, producing undesirable, spatially varying partial sa...

A critical appraisal of transpulmonary and diastolic pressure gradients

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) resulting from left heart failure is an increasingly recognized clinical entity. To distinguish isolated postcapillary PH from combined post- and precapillary PH, the use of a diastolic pressure gradient (DPG = diastolic Pulmonary Artery Pressure - Pulmonary Arterial Wedge Pressure, dPAP - PAWP) has been advocated over the transpulmonary pressure gradient (TPG = mean...

Probabilistic averaging: an instinctive method of averaging according to data confidence applied to Cardiac 31P MRS

Objective Cardiac P MRS is a potentially highly useful tool for probing cardiac energetics and informing clinical management of heart disease, but whose precision suffers from low signal to noise ratio and overlapping peaks. In addition, however, valuable information describing the variance of a spectrum’s fitting remains unused or ineffectively used when determining changes in cardiac PCr/ATP ...

In vivo mouse myocardial (31)P MRS using three-dimensional image-selected in vivo spectroscopy (3D ISIS): technical considerations and biochemical validations.

(31)P MRS provides a unique non-invasive window into myocardial energy homeostasis. Mouse models of cardiac disease are widely used in preclinical studies, but the application of (31)P MRS in the in vivo mouse heart has been limited. The small-sized, fast-beating mouse heart imposes challenges regarding localized signal acquisition devoid of contamination with signal originating from surroundin...
